A little bit about John Bayne, N4EEB
I am 56 years old and received my Novice license in 1978. Over the years I earned the General, Advanced, and Amateur Extra tickets.
I was born in New Smyrna Beach, FL. I currently live in Astor, FL with my XYL Marilsa. I have two sons and a daughter and and several grandchildren.
I am a retired police officer with 30-years of service with a municipal police department in Central Florida. Although I mainly worked as a patrol sergeant, my assignments included homicide investigator, DEA Task Force, Accreditation Manger, and 911 Communications Center Supervisor.
I served in the Florida Army National Guard in the 80’s, where I worked with the HHD 202 Medical Group. My MOS was radioteletype and radiotelephone operator. (O5C) – Because of ham radio, I was able to complete the U.S. Army International Morse Code (IMC) course at Ft. Gordon, Georgia in 60 minutes (this was an 8 week course).
I am a private pilot SEL. I have about 500 hours logged, mostly in the Cessna 172.
In the 1990s, I was a member of the Florida Wing Civil Air Patrol and had the honor of serving with many dedicated volunteers. At one point I became the senior search incident commander for the state where I supervised a variety of search and rescue, disaster relief, and operations focused on counter-terrorism.
I am an avid CW operator and contester. My favorite contests are the November Sweepstakes CW, 10-Meter Contest, and going mobile in the Florida QSO Party. I also enjoy ragchewing on SSB, and lately I have taken an interest in FT-8 on HF and MSK144 for meteor scatter on 6-meters.
